Beginning in 1981, the first generation Toyota Soarer gave to customers only the best of the best. From touchscreen air conditioning in the initial models, to the 1JZ-GTE twin turbo engine that many customers felt in love with on the third generation Z30 Soarer, to the hardtop convertible in the Z40 series or Lexus SC430. Since every generation received a lot of updates in terms of both technology and design, the feel and look of a Toyota Soarer was comparable to owning the latest luxury German car.
Toyota Soarer Specs, Engine And Driving Experience
Toyota made the Soarer for the luxury segment, hence the car was given plenty of performance to fit this purpose. It was available in many options of power, so depending on what you need, you can choose either a naturally aspirated, large engine or a popular twin turbo engine.
The first generation Soarer (Z10), produced between 1981 and 1985, offered 05 different inline-6 engines: three 2.0-litre, one 2.8-litre and one 3.0-litre. These engines made from 93 kW power and 172 Nm of torque for the smaller 2.0-litre to over 140 kW power and 260 Nm of torque for the largest 3.0-litre and also gave adequate performance with Toyota quality.
The second generation Toyota Soarer, known as Z20 series, manufactured from 1986 to 1991, was available in plenty of engine options and like the first generation these engines ranged in sizes. To make something different, Toyota produced many Z20 series models with much more power than the models from the first generation. For example, the 2.0-litre twin turbo 1G-GTE engine of the Z20 Soarer created 157 kW power and 275 Nm or torque. Moreover, the 3.0-litre engine of the Z20 series produced 173 kW power and 325 Nm of torque.
The third generation Toyota Soarer, known as Z30 series, built from 1991 to 2000 came with one of the most popular twin turbo engines ever made: the 2.5-litre 1JZ-GTE. This type of engine was used in many famous cars like Toyota Supra, creating up to 206 kW power and 378 Nm of torque. With some basic aftermarket tuning products, this powerful engine can easily reach over 250 kW power and 400+ Nm or torque. Besides the powerful engine 2.5-litre 1JZ-GTE, Toyota also gave to the third generation 02 4.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 engines which are considered collectible.
The last generation Toyota Soared, known as the Z40 series, manufactured from 2001 to 2005, was available in a more naturally aspirated and powerful engine. The performance capability of this generation was as not excellent as that of the Z30 series. However, its ability to create 208 kW power and 430 Nm of torque is worth our expectation.
