What is new for Mitsubishi Lancer 2015?

Every base of Mitsubishi Lancer 2015 receives standard heated mirrors across the lineup, and now FUSE is standard on all models, excluding the base Entry-level ES. Besides, new standard features such as Rockford Fosgate audio and xenon headlights are equipped for the Ralliart.

2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Review: Exterior

The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer is outstanding for its sporty, angular design, aggressive snout and forward stance. 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and a rear spoiler are added to GT and Ralliart models, make these models more athletic. The Evolution models take the aggressiveness to other levels with two big exhaust outlets, flared and vented fenders, and a massive rear spoiler on GSR trims. The Evolution is a little shorter and lower, but with an expanded width and wheelbase for better handling.

2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Review: Interior

The modern and sharp exterior styling of the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer doesn’t come into its cabin. Look at the interior of the Lancer, we can see that it is indicating its bland, ags and cheap plastic does not help.  All models of the Lancer don’t have a telescoping steering that makes it harder to find a perfect fit. Evolution editions receive well-bolstered, low-sitting Recaro seats up front but without height adjustment, people who are short will get trouble to see over the dash. A shift knob and a leather-wrapped steering wheel make the Ralliart and GT trims more attractive.

2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Review: Standard Features and Options

The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer comes in 5 trim levels: Entry-level ES, All-wheel-drive SE, Performance-oriented GT and Ralliart and Evolution.

Let’s take a look at each trim and find out the difference between them:

– First is the Entry-level ES. The ES has 2.0L engine, heated mirrors, 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, power accessories, a four-speaker audio system with an assistant audio input, bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and a height-adjustable driver’s seat.

– Second is the All-wheel-drive SE. SE trim level has 2.4L engine, all-wheel drive, a standard CVT, fog lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, a color LCD trip computer, a Thule roof-rack system, a rearview camera,  a six-speaker audio system and a 6.1-in touchscreen display with HD Radio, satellite radio and FUSE voice-command functionality.

When buying a Lancer SE, you can choose a Premium package that supplements niceties such as Rockford Fosgate audio, upgraded interior trim and a sunroof.

– Next, the Performance-oriented GT is front-wheel drive but upgrades to a sport-tuned suspension, a rear spoiler, 18-inch alloy wheels, sportier seats and upholstery, keyless entry/start, and automatic climate control.

Optional on this version is a luxury touring package which brings xenon headlamps, leather upholstery, a less-prominent rear lip spoiler, a sunroof, a navigation system with a 7-inch touchscreen display, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Rockford Fosgate audio.
– The turbocharged, all-wheel-drive Ralliart has hood vents, summer performance tires, a dual-clutch automated manual transmission, an even sportier suspension tune and aluminum pedals. This version is also has some components from the GT Touring package as standard, including the Rockford Fosgate sound system and Xenon headlights.

– Finally is the Evolution. There are two models for you to choose: an automatic version (which is dubbed “MR) or a GSR 5-speed manual version (which is called GSR). Both versions are powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder with an inter-cooled turbocharged which develop the aforementioned 291 ponies. The Evolution has standard heated side view mirrors. The MR model has additional features which are: Fast-key entry system, rain-sensing wipers, nine-speaker sound system, auto dimming rearview mirror, automatic headlights,…

Overall, some standard features of higher trims are offered on lower trim as options.

2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Review: Behind the Wheel

SEE MORE:

Mitsubishi Lancer owns standard front seats – which are durable and reasonably supportive. The GT version and Ralliart version are designed with contoured sport seats that catch too much attention and curiosity of car fans.

The Lancer has crisp, attractive speedometer and deeply hooded tachometer and they bookend a great looking optional color LCD trip computer. However, material quality is a weak point of Mitsubishi Lancer. Though the Lancer’s dashboard is basically nice, the material used to build it up are uniformly basic and hard, and that also widens to the door panels.

According to evaluation of auto experts, the Lancer’s base 2.0L engine performs adequately, but the problem is its industrial noise (which is too loud), particularly with the drone-producing a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Therefore, moving up to at least the 2.4L engine if possible is what we recommend for you. The 2.4L engine is a pretty spirited and refined motor that makes the Mitsubishi Lancer much more enjoyable. Besides, the turbocharged 4-cylinder of Ralliart version puts the Mitsubishi Lancer on level footing with the zesty Subaru WRX. And the dual clutch transmission is a good example of its breed, delivering shifts that are both smooth and quick.

2015 Mitsubishi Lancer is taller than a compact car, and you find the extra height in fast corners. However, compared to the norm, Lancer is still a sportier car, particularly with the all-wheel-drive Ralliart’s racy setup and the GT’s sport-tuned suspension. When driving in ordinary, the Lancer performs like a quite civilized car with less road noise than other competitors.

2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Review: Fuel Economy

– The Lancer ES is designed with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that produces 145 lb-ft of torque and 148 hp. While a five-speed manual transmission is standard, the optional option is a continuously variable automatic. Fuel economy of the ES is 25 mpg city/34 mpg hwy with the manual and 26 mpg city/34 mpg hwy with the CVT.

– The  front-wheel-drive GT and the all-wheel-drive SE are powered by a 2.4L 4-cylinder rated at 167 lb-ft and 168 hp. Either the CVT or the 5-speed manual can be specified. Fuel economy for the GT is  22 mpg city/31 mpg hwy with the manual and 23 mpg city/30 mpg hwy with the CVT. The SE check in at 22 mpg city/29 mpg hwy.

– The Ralliart features a turbocharged 2.0L inline 4-cylinder that produces 253 lb-ft and 237 hp. This version is only available with a 6-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission. Fuel economy is 18 mpg city/25 mpg hwy.

– The Evolution is available with GSR (5-speed manual transmission) and MR (six-speed twin-clutch automated manual with paddle shifters on the steering wheel and 3 shift programs). Fuel economy is 17/23 mpg with manual transmission and 17/22 mpg with automatic transmission.

2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Review: Cargo

The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan is designed with a 60/40-split rear seat and 12.3 cu ft. of trunk space, that is a bit low for the class. The Lancer Evolution has 6.9 cu ft. of trunk space and according to test drivers, the Evolution doesn’t have much trunk space for bigger items. And the Lancer Ralliart has 9.1 cu ft.  and other models with an optional subwoofer have 11.8 cu ft. of space.

2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Review: Safety

The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer comes with seven airbags (front-side, front, driver-knee, full-length side-curtain), anti-lock brakes (with discs on the SE, GT, Ralliart and standard rear drums on the ES) and standard stability control.

Mitsubishi Lancer received an overall score of 4 stars out of 5 in government crash-testing, including 4 stars each for side and frontal impacts. The Lancer also received the highest rating of Good in all tested categories (excluding the small-overlap front test, where it was deemed Acceptable) from the Independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Review: Handling and Braking

According to test drivers, the 2015 Lancer has clever handling, particularly if you are planning to buy a Lancer GT, which has a sport-tuned suspension. However, auto experts also say that the Lancer has a stiff ride and is noisy at speed, making it uncomfortable for daily drivers.
