What is Lexus Safety System+?

ByMatsumoto Naoki-July 02, 2021

Lexus Safety System+ is a famous feature not only with the Lexus owners but also with every car owner in the world. This system becomes standard on most Lexus automobiles. In order to help San Antonio drivers drive with the peace of mind in various driving situations, Lexus makers created this integrated suite.

With four advanced safety features, this system can save drivers from many different potential crashes as well as offer safe following distances. Not to mention, the Lexus Safety System+ helps drivers notice and avoid pedestrians who might walk in front of them. Another advantage is that the system ensures your car maintains a decent speed as well as distance with the automobiles driving ahead. So what is this system and how can it offer that much help? Let’s find out.

The Lexus Safety System+

The Features in Lexus Safety System+

This Lexus Safety System+ offers many helpful features for drivers to have a better driving experience. So which features does this system include?

Lane Assistance

The first and most important feature of the Lexus Safety System+ is the lane assistance. This feature makes sure drivers will always stay safe on the road. The Lane Departure Alert will provide car owners an audible alert in order to detect the laning phrase. If you are exiting the lane, this feature will tell you.

Along with that, the Lane Departure Alert will connect with the steering wheel by the Steering Assist. This combination will pull on the steering wheel a little bit to guide you back into your planned lane. In short, the Lane Keep Assistance will integrate with cruise control with the purpose of preventing drifting from the lane.

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection

The next feature that we can expect is the pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. This amazing feature will let you detect a car, pedestrian or any other obstacles in the driving way.

This feature also connects with the Brake Assist. So if your car finds a frontal collision or any incoming obstacles, the brake assist will apply pressure to the brakes for the car owners. If it is too close, the Brake Assist can automatically stop the vehicle for you.

Intelligent High Beams

Intelligent high beams are also one of the most common features in the Lexus Safety System+. And car owners are surely going to enjoy the benefits of this feature. This feature offers amazing greater visibility for both you and other drivers. In situations when the system finds another automobile is coming toward, it will switch into low beams so that other car owners can see that. And if you are driving and the road ahead is clear, the system will automatically put the high beams for you.

High Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Last but certainly not least, we have high speed or all-speed dynamic radar cruise control. This feature is only available on the IS 2017-2020, RC & RC F 2018-2020 as well as GX 2020. The high speed dynamic radar cruise control can maintain a preset speed. Not to mention, it also keeps you away from the car ahead of yours with the following distance. If you start to get closer than the preset distance thanks to the camera and radar technology, the features will combine with the throttle to decrease the speed. It can even press the brake if needed. After that, if the traffic is clearer, the car will automatically speed up to the preset speed.

The Lexus Safety System+ 2.0

However, new Lexus cars nowadays all have the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0. If the new iteration helps the Lexus Safety System+ read and understand the information of the road sign, the 2.0 version stops car owners from straying from the lane, especially when driving on the highway.

Now that we acknowledge the Lexus Safety System, what can we expect in the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0? Let’s jump right into it.

Lane Assistance

With the same setting as Lexus Safety System+, the 2.0 version has an upgrade on Lane Assistance. To be more specific, it adds a second lane assistance called Lane Tracing Assist along with Steering Assist and Lane Departure Alert. This feature is a hands-on system that aims to integrate with All- Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with the purpose of keeping drivers in the center of their lane. Even when the highway is curving ahead, it still ensures that purpose.

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection

With the upgraded version, the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 offers an enhanced version of Pre-Collision System. Apart from all the things the old system can perform, the system can now detect pedestrians and obstacles both during low-light and daytime conditions.

Along with that, this system provides both camera capabilities and enhanced radar. They allow car owners to spot bicyclists in the daytime. So if there is any potential frontal collision detected, Brake Assist will be helpful when you need to stop the car.

Intelligent High Beams

If you think the Lexus forgot about the upgrade for Intelligent High Beams, you are mostly wrong. The benefits of Intelligent High Beams’ new upgrade is the increase in lights. To be more precise, these smart headlights offer greater visibility for you as well as other car owners.

High Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Last but certainly not least, we come to the high speed dynamic radar cruise control of the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0. The new upgrade of the All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control lets car owners to slow down automatically when there is a car too close ahead. No matter what speed you are moving at, it can slow it down for you. If it is necessary, your Lexus can still stop completely with this feature.
