The rise of the Toyota Noah in Uganda

ByJohn Kelly-February 06, 2018

The year was 2009. The streets of Kampala were suddenly awash with a new Toyota minivan and almost everybody had to grab one. Almost ten years down the road, the Toyota Noah is still a favorite family vehicle in Uganda.

The 2016 Toyota Noah is 4.69m long, 1.69m wide and 1.82m tall. Its wheelbase is 2.85m long. The shape of this minivan is boxy, which enables the maximum usage of space. With the latest 2016 redesign, passengers’ entry and exit into the vehicle is easier thanks to its lower floor.

The Noah comes in a variety of color choices, and probably few additional features. The Toyota Noah comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights with leveling, smart start and entry system, rear spoiler, aero kit, twin moon roofs and much more. The bigger changes will, most likely happen later on, possibly for 2017 or 2018 model year, when Toyota could make a facelift of the model. Before that, Noah will go mostly unchanged, with some details and tweaks that could be added in order to keep it fresh.

The engine that runs the 2016 Toyota Noah is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder petrol unit and is capable of delivering 150 horsepower and 142 lb-ft of torque.

The 2016 Toyota Noah hybrid system is based on 1.8-liter with 98 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with electric motors and battery pack for great performances and stunning fuel economy rates. Both the Hybrid and the regular Noah are paired with CVT and either a two-wheel or four-wheel drive. One noteworthy aspect is that the Toyota.

Noah’s average fuel economy of the regular Noah model is 16 km per liter while hybrid variant goes about 23.8 km per liter, which is pretty affordable for the average Ugandan’s spend power.
