Buying Guide

Toyota Mark II is a mid-size sedan that the Japanese automaker manufactured from 1968 and 2007. the first four generations (1968–1984) were known as Toyota Corona Mark II and the word ‘Corona’ was dropped with the launching of the fifth gen in 1984. The Mark 2 cars had been produced until the ninth generation (2000–2007) but the Mark II was replaced with Mark X in 2004.

Overview of Toyota Mark 2 Models

As manufactured across nine generations, there had been plenty of variations. You may seem a bit confused without a short discussion on the models (the popular ones at least).

When the Toyota Mark II from Japan started gaining popularity all over the world, the automaker introduced two sedan models - Toyota Chaser and Toyota Cresta.

The sporty Chaser made its debut in 1977 while the luxurious Cresta hit the market in 1980. However, declining sales forced the company to discontinue them. It later rejuvenated the combined version of these two in another short-lived model - Toyota Verossa.

Has good resale value.

The ninth-gen lineup added a 2.0L iR grade (Intelligent Rapidly) alongside iR-S and iR-V but eliminated two versions from the previous gen - Tourer S and Tourer V. The 2.0L iR model was also the reason to discontinue the G-tb model.

Later, the Mark II was transformed into Mark X, which is enjoying good sales in Japan and a few international markets until to date. Toyota added another version to this lineup - the Toyota Regalia. It was a special edition, celebrating Mark II car’s 35th anniversary.

Toyota exported the cars in several markets as Toyota Cressida across four generations from 1976 to 1992. the automaker later replaced Cressida with Avalon in North America. In fact, all Toyota Mark II variations are the same except for some little difference in trim and exterior styling.

Toyota Mark II Review

If you are looking for a Toyota Mark II for sale, this short review could be your go-to guide. To avoid confusions, we’ve only discussed the ninth gen model (from 2000 to 2007).

Toyota Mark 2 Specs & Interiors

Mark II is an amazing car hidden under the facade of a simple sedan. The interior has sufficient room for four adults to be comfortable on a long trip.

The ninth generation (also known as the X110 series) discontinued the hardtop model to keep the standard version. The 2002 model came with a few minor changes including a redesigned bumper, new headlight, freshened up the front grille. The rear side also got some love too in the forms of new chrome trim and taillight design.

The air conditioning and automatic climate control keep the interior comfy. The entertainment system is well-thought as it includes a premium sound system.

Toyota introduced a new feature called Navi Al-shift in these cars. Its functions include using GPS signals to help the driver and shifting the gear of the auto transmission.

In fact, the Toyota Mark II has a host of impressive features considering that it was manufactured 15 years ago. There is a multi-functional LCD screen that shows fuel range, a reminder to the next maintenance date, and interior and outside temperatures. The steering wheel remote control is a nice feature and it comes standard in Toyota vehicles.

Active Safety Features

Driving a Toyota car is always safe for everyone on the road - drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. The Mark II also does not compromise with the safety features.

It has front, side, and curtain airbags to provide all-around safety in the event of an accident. The car is also equipped with the Toyota Advanced Safety package. The intuitive features respond automatically to different situations on the road and take action accordingly. You can rely on this car to have the best protection in critical moments.

Cargo Capacity

You can free up an impressive 1,657 liters of storage space by folding the rear seats. The sunken design of the cargo trunk also helps with storing some extra items.

The good this is the designers not only thought about adequate cargo capacity but also securing the stuff. There is cargo lashing system for securing the items on the compartment’s surface. The cover on the luggage trunk protects the stuff from nosy onlookers.

Toyota Mark 2 Engine Options

The engines come in 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0L variations. The 2.0L one generates 160 horsepower while 220 hp is the limit for the 3.0L version. The 2.5L version can rev up to 280 HP along with having 200 and 196 hp options.

Available in both manual and automatic transmission options, these care are here to impress. You will like Toyota Mark II performance given how efficient, quick, and impossibly quiet they are. And, what makes it possible? The soft chassis and lighter wheel! The handling is also superb, making it a perfect catch for the used car lovers.

The 2.5L model makes the perfect purchase sense considering its dynamic performance along with low-level of fuel consumption and quiet operation. But, people with a tight budget can for the 2.0L version. It is an ideal choice for budget shoppers.

The popularity also makes it easier to find replacement parts and expert mechanics if it needs a repair or maintenance service.
