Fiji does not manufacture cars and trucks, not even bicycles. However, Fiji imports vehicles from most car producing countries worldwide. Apart from Japanese cars, Fiji has brand names from car producing countries such as Ford from Australia, Mercedes from Germany, Volks Wagon from Europe, Mahindra from India, Hyundai & Kia from Korea and Proton from Malaysia and a few more.

I currently own a Toyota Crown Deluxe. It is my third Japanese car within a period of over 30 years. I first bought a Nissan blue Bird in 1987, and changed to Toyota Corona a year later. I have many respects for cars from other countries around the world, but I have sentimental attachments with Japanese cars particularly Toyota, after my experience with the Toyota Corona because it was very economical running in terms of fuel, have powerful and long-lasting engine with parts readily available in the local market. In terms of Japanese cars, my choice is Toyota due to reasons mentioned above.

Worthy to mention is the fact that Japanese cars are not only cheap running, but they are good quality cars sold at very fordable prices particularly the second hand ones. Under the circumstance, most average income earners in Fiji now own a car. Gone a the days whereby car in Fiji is considered a luxurious item. It is now considered by most people that owning at least a car in the family as a necessity as it is convenient for movement from point A to point B. For that reason, people need cars as specially from Japan.
