3. The History of Mercedes-Benz AMG

You know what does AMG mean in Mercedes Benz, but what is their story? How did they start their journey and became a prestigious division in a world-known automaker company?

AMG began its epic journey as an independent tune-up shop specialized in Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

The German automaker acquired it and transformed it into a high-performance subsidiary with their own engine manufacturing shop. The acquisition happened in 1967 but the full-acquisition did not take place until 2005.

People in the United States did not know about these racing beauties for many years after the acquisition. Mercedes-Benz introduced the AMG vehicles in the U.S. market in 1993 with the C36 AMZ.

Aufrecht and Melcher founded the company with the goal of manufacturing race engines.

Mercedes-Benz helped their dream to come true and the sole focus of the Mercedes-AMG collaboration was to produce cars that show enhanced stability and excellent handling while running on a powerful racing engine.

The modern AMG productions are not just about racing. Although racing and powerful engines are still at the heart of it, it also focuses on putting high-performance engines in an array of most popular Mercedes-Benz models.

It has evolved over the years but its dedication and commitment to manufacturing the best possible engine are still the same.

4. What Differentiates AMG from Non-AMG Cars?

What does AMG mean in Mercedes Benz? Well, you know that they are high-performance cars. But, there are plenty of high-performance vehicles that don’t have the AMG stamp. Is there any difference between these two types?

Well, there are! AMG-stamped vehicles are the performance-driven trims of Mercedes-Benz. Think about Audi’s S line or BMW’s M division, and you will get the idea. All of the top car manufacturers have platforms for vehicles.

Extensive research, wide-ranging development efforts, and a huge amount of money are invested to create and develop a new platform.

The company then uses it in numerous ways to manufacture products tailored to the taste of consumers in different countries and markets.

You can consider the AMZ vehicles as higher trims of Mercedes models. As a matter of fact, they are specially designed and tuned for providing extra power.

The brand’s engineering team builds the engines by hand with extra care and great efforts.

What does AMZ mean in Mercedes Benz cars and what makes them different from trim lines of other brands?

Built by a single builder, each AMZ car comes with a broad range of performance boosting components including hydraulic steering, larger wheels, stiffer suspension, and more. These feature gorgeous aesthetics and extra-sporty handling.

They also have more carbon fiber in their body and parts that keeps the overall weight lower than other models and boosts the performance by quite a margin.

It is well-known that what does AMG mean in Mercedes Benz cars is that it is the sportier variation of its base model.

The automobile enthusiasts across the world who have a hunger for experiencing race-like speed and performance on the streets also know this. For this reason, there is such a high demand for these vehicles.

AMG’s original focus was to produce some pure sports breeds for performance lovers and adrenaline junkies.

The brand arguably reached its peak with the production of the Naturally Aspirated V8s featuring a 6.2L engine in the late 2000s. But, it took a rather commercial turn since then and started manufacturing more models with the AMG badge.
