Before buying a Honda S2000 for sale, it is essential to learn about some specs of the car to make a better decision.
Overview
The Honda S200 is named after its excellent engine displacement of two liters and the series continued with better and modified versions of the S500, S600 and S800 roadsters of the 1960s.
From 1999 to 2009, Honda produced 2 generations of Honda S2000. The first generation (1999- 2003) is fitted with the chassis code AP1. The second generation (known as AP1 facelift or AP2 in Europe) (2004-2009) has the similar look with the first generation but it is given major changes in the suspension and drivetrain.
Besides, during the lifetime, the Honda S2000 underwent several changes in terms of exterior, interior, suspension, gearbox and engine. Each revision come up with something that customers find new and interesting and that would help to improve the car’s lifestyle.
Exterior
The exterior design of the Honda S2000 is impressive from your first look. The car is pleasingly small from the outside, and in fact on the cramped site once you come in, with the skinny door cards and shallow dash emphasising your proximity to the windscreen and the outside world.
The first generation Honda S2000 features 16-inch with Bridgestone Potenza S-02 tires. The 2001 model has a new rear wind blocker as a standard feature. The 2002 model uses a glass rear window incorporating an electric defroster instead of a plastic rear window in previous models. Later models in this generation are fitted with slightly revised tail lamps with chrome rings. Color options for the first generation are: Sebring Silver, Gran Prix White, New Formula Red, Berlina Black, Silverstone Metallic, Spa Yellow and Suzuka Blue.
The second generation features 17-inch wheels with Bridgestone RE-050 tires, oval-tipped exhausts, new LED tail-lights, revised headlight assemblies and new front and rear bumpers. For the North American market, updates include new wheels and new exterior color, Laguna Blue Pearl.
Interior
The first thing you notice when climb inside an S2000 is certainly its biggest cork. Every interior control is geared towards the driver. In some cars, passenger has equal ability to change the stereo or climate controls but it doesn’t happen in the S2000. So sorry passenger, this car is all about driver.
The next thing to talk about is the car’s seats. The S2000 offers very convenient seats that locate you well, but if you have perched a little too high, so you look down on the non-adjustable steering wheel rather than at it. The brake pedal is strong, making sure to provide enough downshifts with a heel-and-toe blif whether you are just rowing along at moderate pace or working the the pedal with maximum pressure. The pedals are offset slightly to the right but nicely spaced.
Another interesting thing about the car is it has no glove box, that is not unusual for a sports car but very unusual for a Honda car. But don’t worry as this car has a little compartment in between the seats that is larger than you might think. And there are little storage nets on each of the doors and there is another little storage net in the passenger footwell. The door panel host normal mirror controls, normal window switches in a normal door handle. The centre console is incredible simple: the is a button for the roof and a button for hazard lights.
- Updates for the later models of the first generation include: a digital clock to the radio display, leatherette console cover, a leather gear-shift knob and an upgraded radio with separate tweeters.
- Updates for the second generation include: additional stereo speakers integrated into the headrests and revised seats.
Engine
The first generation features a front engine, rear wheel drive train, six speeds manual transmission, inline 4 cylinders, 1997 cc displacement, limited slip differential, double wishbone suspension system. This engine makes outputs of 177-184 kW, and 208-218 N-m depending on the target market.
The second generation added electronic stability control system, five gears, high performing engine parameters and shock absorbers.
Based on spectacular modifications of Honda S2000 has been received many awards like: best affordable sports car, ranked number model, highest ranked model and best car of decade and the all round sports vehicle.
Most things that many people talk about this car is it doesn’t come alive until you are about 6000 rpm and it is true. The S2000 is like a old-school turbo car where the turbo just kicks in. It does get quick at 6:00 but you really have to go up there and get a lot of that power.
Honda S2000 Price
On the used car market, the price of Honda S2000 used cars for sale price ranges from $20,000 to $45,000 depending on the condition and mileage of the car. Honda S2000 white and Honda S2000 black are the two models that customers like the most.
