From personal experience and my observations within my vicinity, and my country, Nigeria at large, Japanese cars have been the toast-for-all for decades! It has always remain an inheritance from forebears to their descendants. The reason for this is not far-fetched, amongst the good qualities that endeared Japanese cars to my folks are as follows: durability, economical or low fuel consumption rate, availability of motor parts, technology, internal and external features, et cetra et cetra.
However, I would like to expound on these qualities individually so as to x-ray the immense benefits derivable from them.
Durability: It is quite common to see most Japanese cars lasting for 20-30yrs with good maintenance. This has helped many low income families to manage their resources very well in order to cater for their other needs.
Economical: The low energy consumption rate of the cars has made it possible for the have-not in our society to possess and maintain Japanese cars.
Availability of motor parts: It is so easy and cheap to purchase Japanese spare parts.
Technology: As a result of recent discovery in technology and modern desire to embrace recent technology, the cars from Japan have not been wanting in this regard! The car companies have been up-to-date in following and incorporating recent technology in their car manufacturing. Their research and development department are on the watch over their strategy.
Internal and External features: The elemental features of the body components both internally and externally make the cars maintain balance and this ensures the high speed Japanese cars are known for.
Low centre of gravity: It enables the cars maintain balance , agile and easy to operate.
Apart from the above mentioned qualities, other factors that portray the choice for a Japanese car are many and varied. They include marketing mix, Management and staff, Research and development policy, employee motivation, desire for a niche, and following the trends in the society.
In marketing mix: The product, price, channel of distribution, market for the product, advertising, promotion and marketing strategy are factors that have assisted Japanese car companies to stand out shoulder high above other car companies.
Management and staff: Their policy have been to be a leader in the car manufacturing sector! The policy, strategy, management and staff all buy into calving a niche for themselves.
Research and development policy: The car companies follow the trends in technology and society. They are not Laggards nor followers but only want to be Leaders. So, they detect the pace in car manufacturing and others only watch and follow them. The factors are many and inexhaustible!
