Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz
Karl Benz and Gottileb Daimler laid the foundation stone of motor vehicles in the 80’s, when they invented the automobile and high-speed engine independently. Powered by financial backing, the duo carried out their development work separately. Karl Benz established Benz & Co. Rheinische Gasmotoren-Fabrik in 1883. And the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) came into being in 1890.
Both companies were working on a trademark to make their product line exclusive. In order to indicate their quality and origin, the companies decided the first name as Benz and Daimler.
The First Steps
Karl Benz finally founded the Benz & Co. in cooperation with trade representative Friedrich Wilhelm Esslinger and businessman Max Rose. The company initially began its journey as a public corporation.
Soon, the company saw a rapid rise in the number of their employees; which reached 25 very quickly. Besides, licenses for constructing gas engines on a commercial basis were also issued. Karl Benz without wasting any time commenced designing an all-encompassing vehicle, to integrate four-stroke petrol engine later. Daimler, however, integrated the first engine in a carriage. Karl Benz received the first patent in 1886.
The Early Years
The founding year of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) was in 1890. The company got its notary certification in Stuttgart; which green signaled the production of Daimler inventions.
In 1894, Gottlieb Daimler relinquished his shares in the company, and left the company for some time. In cooperation with Wilhelm Maybach, he developed the car.
DMG built the first truck in the history of automobile in 1886. The first vehicle hit the UK roads.
Jellinek and DMG reached a deal to fix matters like sale and distribution in 1900. Together they also decided to build a new engine – Daimler-Mercedes. Jellinek chose the name Mercedes because it was his daughter’s name. In the same year, in April, Jellinek ordered for a total of 36 vehicles for an estimated 550,000 gold marks.
Some Other Facts
